~ New Art Work~
Lately in the studio, I’ve been working on a series of seascapes + landscapes. Mostly small studies that let me experiment with color + perspective without having to commit to a larger canvas. Kind of a prequel to the larger pieces to come later. These new works developed over a series of days listening to music that has an air of the seaside. The Cranberries, The Waterboys and a few other bands always make me feel like I’m at away and at peace near the ocean.
Such a great get-away…

PINK CLOUDS RISING
acrylic on canvas
10h x 20w / $225 / ready to hang
This new landscape is small, but it packs a punch with lots of layers + texture. I adore clouds. Especially in pink!

BAMBOO FOREST, PACIFIC RIM
acrylic on canvas
10h x 20w / $225
In this piece, I wanted to capture the cool air of the Pacific ocean. My Pacific pieces tend to be more of the Northern California coast as I’m not a huge fan of the tropics. The cooler weather has always been a preference and I think this part of the west coast reminds me of so many days in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire and the always chilly + perfect Plum Island, Massachusetts in Winter.
You know where you stand with the sea. And…she’s a good listener.

TWILIGHT, BLUE HORIZON
acrylic on canvas
24h x 30w / $1,100 / ready to hang
Last, but certainly not least, is this beauty! I actually did this piece a few weeks back, then put it aside as I wasn’t sure it was finished.
Funny thing about that. Sometimes you put a piece aside and you’re not really sure why. With this one, I found myself staring into it and getting taken away, but it seemed too simple, too plain almost. What I realize now, is that quiet isn’t necessarily lacking. So much of my work has a lot of color and movement to it and this one felt like it wanted to stay subtle. Almost shy in a way.
I applied layers of blue + violet + silver which makes the depth come through in the top of the painting and then the greens + yellows draw you into the play on light.
This piece has an immediate calming effect on me… And let’s face it, we could all use a bit of CALM right now… am I right?
