Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.
~ Marie Curie

Greetings everyone!
2020’s become a bit of a challenge, ‘ey?!  How are you doing out there??  I thought I’d check in and share some of my latest work in the hopes it will bring you some cheer and good old fashioned distraction from our current circumstances!

Do you love this Marie Curie quote??  Fellow Scorpio and a double Nobel prize winner, a.k.a. BADASS!  My only 2020 intention is LESS FEAR.  Working diligently, always.

Portrait, Ann Juell, 2019
acrylic on canvas
16h x 12w

This is a portrait of my dear friend and neighbor, Ann Juell … she’s a very cool person who I adore and I was a bit of a wreck when she asked about doing her portrait – you just really don’t know what people are expecting.   We all love John Singer Sargent, but you know, I’m just at a different level here in the Oakland studio!

My only real hope was that I was capturing her/her spirit and I definitely feel like I got that, so I’m happy with the finished piece.  I love doing portraits and am planning a series to show in the new year, so stay tuned!

Map To Jean Michel’s House
acrylic + ink on board
4h x 4w

These are a couple of new little abstract paintings I’ve been experimenting with in the studio.  Very small, only 4×4, so a challenge working with this size, but very fun to have some trials with color, shape and line.

The first one, Map To Lee’s House struck me immediately that it was about Lee and his work.  SO fresh and bold.  I miss him.  If you haven’t seen the film, McQueen (2018), do yourself a favor…it’s thrilling to watch him work.  Devastating that he’s gone.

The second piece, Map to Jean Michel’s House, is another take on this map/lines theme.  Another brilliant creator gone way too soon.  I wonder about what his work would look like now if he was still painting…

Abstract In Red + Orange
acrylic + oil stick on canvas
12h x 12w / $225 / ready to hang

I recently rediscovered this piece + wondered why it was practically hidden away in my house~  from 2018… love the energy and movement of this piece!  Just added it to my website…

Sweet Little Things…

I saved these for last ~ I’ve been using these small, 4×4 paintings as a ‘thank you!’ to my mail carrier, my delivery people and any health care workers I know personally who are putting themselves out there to care for all of us.   It’s a small gesture, but it means a lot when people know you appreciate them!

If you’d like to order any of these, email me by replying to this newsletter, or send me a separate note at mary@marylonerganart.com.  They’re $40 each (includes shipping in the U.S.).  You can choose from either a pink or teal background (no custom orders)~ each painting varies slightly.

If you’d like to pick up a gift that your
friends and family will love forever, please inquire
about commissioning an original artwork.
We have MLA gift certificates  available also.
